POLICY ON THE UTILIZATION OF WEBSITE COOKIES

INTRODUCTION

This policy explains how 1642 Capital Inc. (hereinafter “1642 Capital” or “we” or “the Company”) uses cookies and similar tracking technologies on its website (the “Site”), while complying with applicable data protection laws, including Quebec's Bill 25 - New provisions protecting the privacy of Quebecers and Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

DEFINITION OF A COOKIE

A cookie is a set of data stored on the hard disk of a device (computer, tablet, cell phone) by the browser software when a user consults an online service. Cookies are widely used by websites. They ensure that the site functions properly, improve navigation, and also provide the site owners with certain information, particularly for audience measurement purposes.

Cookies cause no damage to the device, but make it easier, for example, to retrieve preferences, pre-fill certain fields and adapt the content of services on the site consulted. This data enables the Company to improve ergonomics and services according to a user’s interests.

TYPES OF COOKIES WE USE

The information collected through cookies helps us analyze the use of the Site and enables us to provide users with a better experience during their visit. We will retain cookies only for as long as is necessary to achieve the relevant purposes set out in this Notice, including statistical purposes.

The cookies we use are referred to as “first-party cookies” and the cookies used by our partners and third-party service providers are referred to as “third-party cookies”. We use both first-party and third-party cookies, which may be either session-based or persistent.

Session cookies

Session cookies are temporary cookies that remain on your device until you close your Web browser. Many session cookies are essential to the proper operation of our Site, as they allow you to move around our Site and use our features.

Persistent cookies

Persistent cookies remain on your device after you close your browser or until you manually delete them (in the former case, the duration of the cookie depends on the duration or “lifetime” of the specific cookie and your browser settings, but the lifetime is limited to 13 months). Persistent cookies help us recognize you as an existing user of our Site. This makes it easier and more convenient to return to our Site or interact with our services without having to log in again. In addition, persistent cookies also help us recognize you when you visit a resource on our Site from another website or application (such as an advertisement) and help us record information about your web browsing habits for the lifetime of the persistent cookie.

Cookies of linked social networks

The Site integrates functionalities of third-party sites, including certain social networks. These features may sometimes be accompanied by scripts or other functionalities that read and sometimes place cookies from these social networks on your device. These cookies may be used to personalize advertising messages. Although we have no access to these cookies, nor any control over these social networks, which are responsible for their own processing, nor over the data they collect, including in the context of data transfer outside of Canada, we have deemed it essential to mention them so that you have clear and complete information that their use may, where applicable, require your consent. For more information, please refer to the list of potential social network cookies below:

LinkedIn

The following LinkedIn features may be integrated into our Site and may read or set LinkedIn cookies:

  • Connect to LinkedIn (which allows the user to connect to their LinkedIn account and interact with our website through that account);
  • Share on LinkedIn (which allows the user to share an item on LinkedIn with others)

HOW WE USE COOKIES

Strictly necessary cookies: These cookies are essential to the operation of the Site and cannot be deactivated in our systems.

Preference cookies: Preference cookies allow us to remember information that modifies the behavior or appearance of the Site, such as your preferred language, region, video and audio settings.

Statistical cookies: Statistical cookies allow us to understand how visitors interact with our Site by collecting and reporting information anonymously.

Marketing cookies: Marketing cookies are used to track visitors to the Site. The aim is to display advertisements that are relevant and attractive to the individual user and therefore more useful to third-party publishers and advertisers.

Analysis tools and other third-party technologies

We use analytics tools and other third-party technologies, such as Google Analytics.

Why do we use them? To automatically collect non-personal information. Among other things, the Site uses Google Analytics to understand how users use the Site. For example, this allows us to analyze traffic on the Site or determine its future direction, including any required upgrades.

How does it work? The information generated by Google Analytics cookies about Site usage is transmitted to Google. This information is then processed to compile statistical reports about activity on the Site only.

How do I opt in? You can choose to install the browser add-on available at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout?hl=en, in order to activate Google Analytics and allow your activity data to be sent to it.

Other uses that may be made of this data: anonymous Google Analytics data may be shared with other Google services, which may use this data to contextualize and personalize ads in its own advertising network. 1642 Capital reserves the right to perform statistical analyses using data collected through the Site on an anonymous and aggregated basis in order to measure interest in and use of the Site. 1642 Capital reserves the right to provide its analyses of anonymous and aggregated data to any third party.

ACCEPT OR REFUSE COOKIES ON A BROWSER

Each browser is configured differently to manage cookies and your choices. You can find out how to modify your cookie preferences in your browser's help menu. Any changes you make to these settings may affect your Internet browsing experience and your access to certain services requiring the use of cookies.

You have the option of configuring your devices to accept all cookies, to notify you when a cookie is issued, or not to accept any cookies at all. However, this last option may mean that certain personalized services cannot be provided and, as a result, you may not be able to take full advantage of all the functionalities offered by the Site.

If you do not wish to receive cookies in general, or wish to refuse only certain cookies, you can modify your browser settings accordingly.

Instructions are provided on each browser's website:

For all other browsers not mentioned above, please consult the cookie management aids available on the Internet.
